What Men’s Health has to say about the record player industry

These days everyone has their own two cents about vinyl and the record player industry. That being said, the editors from Men’s Health made a few valid points with one of their recent blog posts on 23 May 2017 called “Screw Digital. Here’s Why You Should Buy a Record Player”.

We decided to give you the low down on this article and add some commentary to it.

Have you ever gotten the feeling that some people get into a hobby just to try and fit in? Men’s Health gives a lot of credit to the “Hipster” crowd for bringing vinyl back to its glory. I mean hipsters are okay, but you don’t have to be one to own a record player. There’s a lot of people that have been true this hobby, if you can call it a hobby, for a long time. They should at least get some credit too.

The article goes on to give three reasons why you should switch over to vinyl and leave digital music behind. Leaving digital music behind entirely would probably be very hard for someone that doesn’t have a record collection. However, you can quickly start this hobby and gradually make the switch.

You get to spend time away from screens

This is one point I can agree with completely. I’m a person that spends a lot of time in front of my computer on a daily basis. It’s almost a shame the amount of time I spend looking at a screen, but unfortunately, my work demands me to do so. Some of us are addicted to technology. Whether it’s in the form of a mobile phone, PC or laptop a lot of us have this issue.

Listening to vinyl or putting a record on the record player takes you away from all that. You don’t have the standard functions of a digital music library. You can’t spend hours creating the perfect playlist or skip ten songs before finding the exact one you like. It’s a slower process, and in a world that is so fast-paced, we need to slow down.

You get to add a dash of style and character to your house

No matter which room you decide to make the epicenter of your vinyl listening experience, adding a record player just gives it something extra. Besides that, these days there are so many options of displaying turntables and storing records that you can truly craft a one of a kind room that gets a discussion going.

Not to mention the different amount of record players available on the market. Manufacturers like Crosley offer very affordable devices that have gained a lot of popularity in the market. You get to start an awesome hobby

Men’s Health goes on talking about how record players and collecting vinyl can be a very social thing. It’s a great point to make, and it can be very real. It’s also a great conversation starter. While visiting the flea market or flipping through vinyl at your local store you’re bound to meet someone new. Not to mention if you’re a guy meeting girls this way isn’t a bad idea either.
